    Found strange balls in radiator

Yes, it came in a box with styrofoam packing, just like your flat screen tv would come in the box. I found the small balls stuck to the side of the fill hole when I pulled the cap off the radiator. I think one of them was actually lodged in the cap, but I was able to pull it out with a knife...

Thanks, Saudade. I wasn't sure what to do. If a moderator is watching, can you please remove this second post? All the discussions are in the other one. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Found strange balls in radiator

Thanks, unclewolverine. I'm farther in my journey and haven't overheated yet so I guess I'll be ok. It just couldn't be stop leak since I've never used it. So I'll put my mind to rest. Thanks.

    Found strange balls in radiator

About the flushing, it was the old radiator that was flushed along with the block. When I found the leak in the radiator, I ordered a new one. The new one was not flushed anymore. I just blew compressed air in it.

    Found strange balls in radiator

Hi Ralph77. Thanks for your thoughts. These little mushy balls are about 2mm in diameter, so very small. That's why I think they're the styrofoam packing pieces. I flushed the radiator with water, drained the block as best as I could from one freeze plug that I then replaced. Then refilled with...

    Found strange balls in radiator

I found these small, dark brown, soft and mushy balls in my radiator when I did a fluid check yesterday. I'm in Lithuania about 1,500 miles from home and only halfway to North Cape, Norway on this road trip. I installed a new radiator last February 2021 and haven't driven the xj much due to...

oversize component code B, so what?

Yes, a friend is a machinist here, helping me on the side. I just wanted to be sure about the piston and ring sizing because of the component code B stamped on the block. But he will be doing the measurements during the teardown. Thanks.

oversize component code B, so what?

Thanks, @Saudade. I figured the same but wanted to hear what others think. I'll know more about the condition of the cylinders when I disassemble the engine and will decide what size to go then.

oversize component code B, so what?

1994 xj, 2.5 l stick shift 4wd, 220,000 miles. I need advice on the oversize component code B stamped on my engine block on the distributor side. The 1994 FSM says all cylinder bores are .010 inch oversized. Am I correct to assume that if I had the cylinders rebored 0.01 inch over then I have...

1994 xj 2.5 confused with distributor setting

Thanks for all your insight. I made the mistake initially when I set TDC but did not determine if it was combustion or exhaust at cylinder #1. This is the reason why I was chasing the rabbit with the distributor. The engine didn't start because I was 180* out of sync - I had erroneously set TDC...

1994 xj 2.5 confused with distributor setting

I'm also beginning to think that my timing is off by 180*. I will try to crank it manually one rotation of the crankshaft tomorrow. Maybe that will being me back to TDC on #1 at the ignition stroke. At least this way we can eliminate the possibility of the distributor being timed for the...

1994 xj 2.5 confused with distributor setting

Thanks, @MD21722. I think I understand how the 5 o'clock offset allows for a bit of rotation when the distributor shaft is installed and the gear meshes with the crankshaft. The distributor gear is clockwise and so when you push it down with a bit of twist, you end up in the 6 o'clock...

1994 xj 2.5 confused with distributor setting

Here is a screenshot of the FSM saying to line up the oil pump gear to slightly past 3 o'clock https://photos.app.goo.gl/ijfRbjhQHHCP4omR6
