    2000 XJ 4.0 Intermittent No Start

    check the wiring along firewall(not the big one), it has wires for CPS & Cam sensor, and goes to computer. Check for contiuity from one end to other. I replaced cam & crank sensor & truck still runs sometimes and wont start others. Jeep checked sensors & they were good & they werent sure...

    I Need it. Well Jeep looked at for 2 hrs and have no idea what it could be. They told me they can cont. to look at but it will get very expensive($98hr). I picked it up and i'm going to check wiring, Jeep said the sensors(Cam & Crank) are good and the timing was good. Start there first.

    Thanks for info, The fuel pump is still running, it seems to be pumping fuel like its running, strong smell of gas. Wont start. I couldnt locate another coil pickup(CPS), i think my new one is bad.

    OK, CMP(coil pick up) came up bad, I replaced and now the truck wont start, kicks over sometimes but wont start.

    Thank you, thats what I was thinking but wasnt sure. The XJ runs good sometimes, the loses all power till i turn off & restart.

    Trouble code P1391 - Loss of CMK or CKP ?? Does anybody know what this is?:tears: The truck will run fine until you rev engine up to 2000rpm the engine will drop to 200rpm and giving it throttle wont do anything.

    thanks for the help. I finaly got it running by setting marks on gears together for cyl. 6, 1 rotation & set distributar to cyl 1. truck ran somewhat, replaced CPS and it ran great, till i took it for ride. XJ will run for awhile then engine will die to 200rpm, shut off & restart no problem...

    Thanks for the info. I spoke w.tech. from jeep and he said to line up the marks on gears for cylinder 6, then rotate crank 1 time and set distributor to cylinder 1:wow:

    Timing chain jumped teeth on my 99' XJ w/4.0 at 193k miles. Purchased new timing set but cant get it runnung again. Followed the CLYMER book and seems to be out 180 degrees. :huh: suggestions please thanks
