What are you towing with?

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Surge brakes bring the suck. Even the disc brake version. They work ok when every thing works but a little corrosion in the surge brake Master cylinder assembly.... DOne

X100

they are terrible and should never be used if one has a true tow rig with a proper trailer brake controller.

I too will never use surge brakes again. I had them on my bass boat trailer and in a panic stop you would get pushed a good bit before the brakes kicked in. If your unlucky you will get sideways or worse yet hit something before the brakes are full on.

Having towed 1000's of marine trailers I can agree.... Surge brakes are not fun.

No they are not...
This fat pig has them, as the troop used to use a lot of different vehicles to tow it. But now I'm the only dad with enough guts to do it. A draw bar flip and a set of removable sway bars made a huge difference from the day this picture was taken.

that electric over hydraulic system looks crazy. i cant imagine how that thing makes enough pressure quick enough to not feel laggy but i guess if they sell it.....
i will stick with my electric brakes

how does your ABS system do it?

there's an accumulator in it for instant pressure dumps. Pump just pressurizes the accumulator.

'99 Suburban 1500 4x4 5.7/auto. Gatormade 16" car hauler with upgraded break-away emergency brake box, brakes on all four wheels, Prodigy P3 controller, weight distribution hitch + sway controller, auxiliary battery & Warn 8274 winch. Pulls the XJ with ease. Of course I'd love to have another diesel, but this works for our budget these days.

2012 Ecoboost, max tow package, 18' car hauler, and a Jayco Popup. 11 MPG towing to Winterfest. (yes, it's legal)
SWEET!:worship: Too bad you had to stick your arm out the window for turn signals......

I tow with several different rigs this one for shorter trips my GC "Overland", a F-350 Crew Cab Diesel and my Diesel Pusher Motor Home in the back of this photo. All do an excellent job but I enjoy pulling a Jeep with another Jeep
