Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

I would agree. Also, your friends are awesome.

That motor sounds insane... any idea what power it's putting down?

To add to what someone said about the gerotor pump taking more power - this is true, but fortunately it is run off the two slots milled in the neck of the torque converter and therefore is directly linked to the engine. The power steering pump probably sucks more power than it, so I wouldn't really be concerned, the gerotor will get all the power it needs to pump the fluid no matter what. The only thing I would worry about is where the pressure regulator is in the circuit, if anywhere, and whether enough pressure remains after running through the cooler to actuate the servos and clutches. I don't have a hydro diagram of the AW4 handy to tell if this is even a concern, though, I can't remember if the cooler comes before all that stuff or not.

The cooler is the last thing. The return line dumps directly into the pan.

We have no idea on the MK III engine power. We've been guesstimating the high side of 350+ and telling other competitors 400. ;) Russ literally told me he put it together as tight as you can stuff parts into the block, don't rev it cold or the pistons will rock in the bore and hit the head, and to be happy with what we got. ;) I don't even know the displacement.... I think he's taking the specs on this one to the grave with him.

SPAL specifies that you should never slow the fan down, they are designed to operate at one speed and voltage. Given the need for reliability over comfort, I'm going to go with them on that.

I was less worried about the height of the fluid I was pushing, and more thinking that I'm pushing a quart up or I'm pushing a gallon up.. I can't see how that doesn't make a difference. :)

I think for the distance it will be pushed up the difference is negligible.

I wonder if tossing together a quick plastic or fiberglass sound shield in front of the fan would help make it less irritating. Should be strong enough to survive but light enough not to matter.

Everyone loves a carrot top.

Harland sharp makes nice stuff. We used them on my buddies olds 455 build. You ever figure out who left the breaker bar for you??

Thanks for your very kind post. Its easy to get wrapped up in how much work and expense this is (it does outweigh the fun) and it is always nice to hear from others who enjoy watching it.

We haven't really had much 'fan energy' this year, which really is why I stopped updating the build thread as often and in much detail.

Cal, I've been on this forum for coming up 10 years, and watching this thread for 3 of those. I gotta say, I think you've lightened up with age :laugh3:

This thread is far and away my favorite to frequent. I love the ingenuity and perseverance you and your team have. You're doing what a lot of us dream we could, and most likely never will. Keep on truckin' dude, we're all right here with ya.

Maybe one of these days Richard and I can sit down and detail out the things that we have figured out but don't tackle based on budget or time/space constraints.. and we can all dream together. :)

Call home first

I bring whatever Cal tells me to.* Usually beer.* But last time it was orange juice and paper towels.* I think he's getting soft.

Couple more accessories bolted on tonight.

Found that i had one extra manifold bolt and washer. Its the damnest thing, I am sure they are all installed.. but one is left.

So XCM came over and double checked, they are most surely all there. Maybe the new engine came with a spare and I didn't notice.

Ended up knocking off early and taking him to the pub. :)
