Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

I had some help from my friend chris the other night and he snapped a couple pics of me stuffed in the back seat doing a little welding on some b pillar tie-ins

Before you even ask, yes those are aluminum....not glass

I had josh at hooligan cut them for me on his torchmate, then i punched holes and dimple died them. Once the fuel cell in in and plumbed the filler neck will run to a filler recessed into the aluminum quarter glass planels. Everything will be vented under/outside of the jeep but i wanted to put some kinda venting for fumes and dust into the cargo area, hence the dimpled holesl

That pillar brace looks up for some abuse. Superb yet again.

I love that b pillar tie in, always wondered why you never see that in our jeep world when it's the standard for most auto racing.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

I finally finished up my front bumper, I cut a slot for my fairlead, made an aluminum skid, and got my winch all wired up and spooled with some synthetic line. Im really happy with how it turned out, it has a better approach angle then a lot of non-winch xj bumpers. I finally got a couple better pics in daylight too!

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

I swapped out my milemarker lockouts for some warn premiums. I had some junky old coil springs that i found laying around at work so i ordered a set of BDS 4.5" coils. The fastest/easiest way to swap out coils is with a forklift, makes it a 5-10 min. job! The flex isnt too bad for having stiff coils up front, short arms, and a leaf pack i made that is mil. wrap and has lots of leafs out back.

I'm glad I installed this sooner then later, the carrier bearings were trashed, so i replaced both when i put the locker in. I pulled the pinion support and pinion out to inspect the bearings and those were fine, its a good thing i caught the carrier bearings before they got much worse though.

I have to say, after building 14 bolts on a regular basis i have become jaded. Everything on and in my 9" just seems so tiny. Dinky little pinion, tiny ring gear, itsy bitsy bearings. Without any question, hands down, no doubt in my mind....the next rear axle i build will be a 14b when (or if) my 9" bites the dust.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

hush your mouth! im doing a 44/9 swap over the winter

take it from someone who has had multiple 44s and rebuilt a couple 9"s now.... althought a 44 is a step up from a d30 in many many ways, dont waste your time unless your only planning on running 33-35" tires. If you do chromo shafts all around they will probably hold up to 37s.

The only reason my 44 and 9 have lasted this long is because i have only wheeled 2 times in the last year and a half lol

I used to think that a 14 bolt/60 or even 14b/14b combo was waay overkill, but not anymore. After doing some measuring i figured out that you will only lose 3/4-7/8" ground clearance between a 9" and a 13 bolt.

Lockers are cheaper for the 14b, disc brakes are cheaper for the 14b, It is a fullfloat axle, and the stock shafts are good for up to 40" tires. Everything is pure beef. I priced out building one versus doing discs, a locker, and shafts in my 9" and it would be cheaper to build the 14 bolt. The only drawbacks are the weight and the fact that i just bought brand new 5 lugs this summer and dont have the funds right now to change over to 8 lug.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

they make 5 lug hubs for the 14 just so ya know :D
