Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

FYI Strange does custom make D44 35sp spools.

hit up lenco racing transmissions for broaching if you ever need it. probably cheaper than you think. i can probably help out with that.
i used to work there, they used to make a lot of stuff for strange. including spools i think. good guys. they're in san diego.

I just got off of the phone with Tracy at strange who was very clear they not only do not do a 35 spline dana 44 spool, they do not do any dana 44 products.
if it's actually worth it (which it probably isnt since a 60 isnt that much) we can probably have one made. if i do the cad work, it wouldnt be too expensive i dont think.

Thats very odd. The white cherokee that was racing with us, I got him all 35sp rear stuff, and they wanted a spool, so I called I think Joe at absolute and he told me that strang was the only place these days. He was doing orders for them a few years ago and said thats who supplied them. Maybe no longer.

check with Summer Bros. He was across from me at Off Road Expo, and told me, if its a a metal drivetrain item with splines he can make it...

It's not worth it. We should use commercial off the shelf parts as much as possible to keep cost down, and spares readily available. Not that you would ever break a spool, it's just so much easier when you use COTS parts.

i dont think it would be very expensive, but i agree off the shelf stuff is a better choice. if not for the spool, then for the axles.

Do you really want anything from this axle?

I mean, the brake lines might be okay, possible the calipers. :laugh3:

Not to mention availability if you need something quick to get back on the track.

it all depends on what happened to the carrier and such. if all that is bad is a bent tube, that can be replaced. but the labor involved is where the money will be spent unless you can do it yourself.

THink about how much the end of that axle shaft was wobbling when taking into account it drove for what, 30 - 40 miles like that, some of it at high speed.

I'd bet the inside looks like Jello.

Chatting with Cal earlier today I said...

...with 35 spline shafts and the housing bent that bad I wouldnt be surprised if the inside of that arb looks like something out of a "will it blend" video...

There is no way that anything inside that ARB is salvageable. Chances are the shaft on the passenger side is toast too.

k.

A mystery that won't be solved until next month.

I put a lot of things off to finish the build by KOH and am stupid busy for the next few weeks.

I wouldn't bet money on that drivers side shaft either ;)
