New hood vent(I haven't seen anyone with it yet at least)

Picked up a hood vet at the JY the other day, $5  came from a 84 Chrysler Laser Turbo(not the one I pulled it from):

I liked it because it has the same style as the LeBaron vents, but it's a little different than I have seen before(maybe there is a reason??)

I cleaned it up and painted it, of course with the trusty Krylon Rust Tuff semi-flat black that I always use.
Installed it tonight:

Not done yet, I still need to touch up the paint around the cut, make a center bracket, repair passenger rear mount(the fiberglass split), and fill in the gap in the center some how.

Not sure exactly how I feel about it yet(to late to do anything about it now), I'm trying to hold off final judgement on it till I can finish it, but it definitely works, I can feel the heat coming out when I parked it, after driving it about 50 miles home from my Dads.

I found one before I got my Le Barron vents and I was going to run it off set on one side, but the one I found had been stepped on and turned out to be broken...

Do your research before you cut that hole. Air flow in that location changes drasticaly. You may end up forcing air into the engine bay at speed. That is where they place cowl induction intakes because of that reason. You have to figure in what you are looking to get out of it. Low speed cooling or high speed cooling. Then place accordingly. Typically low speed in the rear. Highway speed toward the front. GoJeep has a very good write up on this subject.

Hallo. That's a very big hole. Looks nice, but what about the strenght of the hood? You have too cut the mainprofile.

'92 XJ
Yes it is a big hole, Thats why I decided to go with it, Big hole = Lots of air movement. As far as strength goes, I don't thing it effected it, if it did, it's very minimal, the hood still twists a little when you put it on the prop rod. Didn't have to cut any of the hood supports though, there is plenty of room under there for a much bigger hole(not me/my Jeep):

WrecklessXJ on here has one he's gonna install... glad you posted this up

Damnit! And here I thought I was going to be the only one! At least I'm the first to do it(I hope).

At that location you may be pushing air down into it at road speeds

No The place is right! You will have a nice airflow from the underfront trough the enginebay. The airflow takes all the hot air from the top.:D

I don't really care what it does at speed, didn't have any cooling issues at those speeds before anyway, but I think wim hoppenbrouwers is probably right, I have noticed a couple degree drop in engine temp, normally the needle covers up the 210 so I cant read it, but now it's dropped just so I can read it. Also last night when I got home, the hood it''s self was pretty cool to the touch, but could still feel warm(not hot) air coming out the vent. I'm going to be driving it around a bit more, and have a wheeling trip next weekend, so I'll keep you posted on how everything working out.

Uh.... The hole has already been cut. High speed cooling has never been an issue for me, it's low speed, crawling though the woods at 5 mph for hours at a time, that give me issues, especially for the 10-15 min breaks that we take to get someone unstuck, or stop to spot the group though, or just BS while guys take turns at the rock gardens. Thats when I normally have to pop the hood to let some of the heat vent out, so I can shut off the Jeep, otherwise, heat soak on the #3(?) injector becomes a hassle.

HEY i have one of these sittin in my garage.. just waiting to go in :D

Looks good! DAYTONA FTW!

about two months ago i sold one that i pulled 4-5 months prior to another member on here. he was planning to put it up front of the hood

worried about overheating that much huh?

Off topic, and out in left field. Is that a '70 Charger R/T in the background there? And please please please tell me it's not in a junk yard!

Looks like a '69 CHarger, IIRC the 70's had a large one piece taillight instead of a split one like that '69 model has. Before anybody asks, it's not a '68 either, those had round tails and side markers:lecture:

Not over heating, just heat soak.

Yup, it's a 69. The chrome trim connects the tail lights on the 70, but it separates them on the 69. Other than that I had a hell of a time trying to tell the two apart.
