Rear hitch

I just picked up a rear tow hitch (used), and I was wondering how it bolts up, and what size bolts do I need? I see the holes where it should go, but don't know how to secure them.

Not sure what brand of hitch you have but on the drawtite hitch site it has instructions for install on it. This will give you an idea of what you need.

The stock (and best) install uses nut strips -- steel straps with nuts welded to them that slide insoide the frame rails. Bolts are metric, IIRC they are 12mm but I don't recall if it was 12x1.25 or 12x1.75. I think it's 12x1.75 (coarse)

The nut strips are dealer only. Part numbers have been posted here in the past. Newer XJs all come with the right side strip in place, but I don't know what year that started. My '88 did NOT have it, my 2000 does.
