Re: beater!

Lookin good!

You're three radiators are probably the main radiator (duh), the factory tranny cooler like you said, and the other is probably the A/C condensor.

Re: beater!

I did some more paint tests

I liked the metallic so I tried the Dark Bronze, but the flake is not very visible and it looks like beat Olive Drab. Might be good retro color but not what I'm going for, and it would be very hard to polish into a gloss

I thought the hammered finish stuff might look interesting, although as I expected the texturing makes it look a bad paint job more than an interesting paint job. It has a mild gloss to it and fantastic coverage so I might use it on the rockers instead of herculiner.

I actually like the midnight blue that the heep already has on it, so I tried the Navy Blue (Rustoleum American Accents). It's more of a Royal Blue, and while it looks good and would be easy to polish, it's not the color I'm looking for. It also wanted to run, as you can see.

Finally I had a can of Sunburst Yellow laying around from a previous project so I tried it. Coverage was great, gloss was great, no runs... It would be really easy to polish this up, and touch-up would be easy too. I like yellow Jeeps fine too, but for some reason yellow XJs just don't look right to me.

At this point I think I am going with the Sunburst Yellow. It looks great and will be easy to maintain.

Re: beater!

The problem with yellow is that chrome does not work at all. You have to use black trim, and if you want "metal" then you have to use an aluminum paint. It works best when the car is monotone with very little trim.

I think I am leaning towards the blue. I will grab a can of burgundy and try that but as of this moment I think the blue will work the best with the chrome and black trim.

Re: beater!

It's a great retro color. The chrome and black both jump off it really good too.

It's the only color so far that hasn't looked like a used car paint job too.

I like this color best. FWIW.

Re: beater!

Only recent mod is that I swapped in a 136 amp ZJ alternator. I also looked at the NSS and decided to pass on cleaning it for now.

I've spent the past week working on getting the S-10 seat brackets engineered. They may be too wide to go down past the hump far enough. I'm going to the welding shop tomorrow and see if I can knock that out.

I'm trying to find a place to paint the jeep. Unfortunately I will have to do it in the yard, since the garage space is not available. I'm looking at buying a 12x20 portable garage like this one, for use as a paint booth:

It'll cost $400 give or take $100 and will take a couple of weeks to deliver by truck. I have not bought paint yet, since I don't know if I'll have a place to do it.

Re: beater!

what wrong with electric blue? Mine jeep came from the factory with the midnight blue and someone before me painted it electric blue. It also had lots of chrome on it when I bought it.

Re: beater!

I got the seat brackets mostly finished and the seats are installed.

Here is the driver's side seat

Here are a couple of shots of the passenger side controls--it is as far back and as far over as it can go (limited by B-pillar), and it clears the map pocket okay.

I have to do some a little more work then will post a write-up.
