xj at the track - pics

A few months ago I bought a mustang svo for autocrossing- unfortunately when I was to race it the fuel pump went out- but I did have my 94 xj 4.0 aw4 with 30x9.5 mud terrains (excellent substitute right), after 20 laps it had virtually no brakes, fronts were so bad that at the end of the race I had to pump the brakes to slow down and only the rear tires would lock up. anyway I just found the pics- oh yeah and I didn't come in last:yelclap:

LOL sweet! Time for a disc brake upgrade in the rear :). Thats kickass, looks fun. How did the mud terrains look at the end of the day. Also, I wonder if a 242 t-case would be better on the track in full time mode.

On the fuel pump issue, when you do that you need to make sure you have at least 1/2 tank or more IMO. I rode with a profesional road racer in an 04 Mach 1 with 1/3 tank gas in it and it would still starve for fuel coming out of the fast corners lol. If it cavitated a bunch from starvation that could have been the cuase for failure.

thats hilarious. way to improvise. take a look at the front passenger side tire in the first pic... you were making those sidewalls work. looks like you had fun.

Good time! But don't bother polishing that Turd. The few points you get for "free" mods, will not keep you out of modified once you "fix" all the things which make the XJ a good off-road vehicle and a poor roll course vehicle.

LOL....just when you think you've seen it all......

I can only imagine the looks on the faces of the other racers....and what about those who came in behind you....LOL

"man I lost to a Jeep on 30" mud terrains....WTF!!!"

:roflmao:

yeah i had to stop racing because my front breaks were metal on metal, would have loved to race in 4x4 or had a posi rearend- sometimes when accelerating out of corners the inside rear would start spinning at 50mph ( jeep can't even turn em over from a dead start though on most roads)- guess suv's are kinda tippy lol

I always said my 91 limited, stock handle amazing well in the corners. Very sports car like with the sway bars attached. Only people that drove it, get it.
In fact, mine came from SoCal with Eagle GTs. That didn't last long.

My XJ handles (on and off road) a hell of alot better that the POS Durango rental car I had last week. I wanted my jeep back the whole time.

XJs really are the original "do-all sport utility".

Thanx for sharing that one

brings back some fond memories.........wasn't into 4wds back then.

I dig the pass front sidewall deflection in the first shot, autocrossing a brick with 30's

Cool!

Whats the red strap on the driver side front axle?

hahaha- a blew up the whole ujoint assembly in a swamp and had no coice but to drive home on it- just swazalled the end of the axle off and put a ratchet stap on it to keepit from clunking- have a spare axle- just never got around to swapping it- too many projects

That's awsome, I'd bet a well maintained ;) 4wd cop XJ (better springs, 242 case, pretty well stripped of options right off the lot) with some kind of LSD and wide 50 series tires could be alot of fun on a course like that. I'd want to do something like that with a Briarwoody or Wagoneer though, just for the wrongness factor of road racing a woody SUV:laugh:
