Losing the space in the back was hard but filling up at the pump and paying only half the price of petrol makes it easier.
My LPG system is an older type that has a single venturi plate. In winter, I have to start on petrol to avoid icing the inlet manifold. The newer multipoint injection systems don't have that problem. I start up every time on petrol just to make sure that the Jeeps original fuel system is working properly it switches over to LPG automatically when its ready and back to petrol for wide open throttle acceleration.
Did you notice the rear seat head rests?

It came with the rear headrests from the factory. They are removable.
The GPS is an old Garmin StreetPilot III. If Garmin can make another GPS that gives voice directions and can use topo maps I would trade up. For now, the Garmin GPS that I would like can't load topo maps so I'm sticking with what I have.

Dear,
I changed my axles. Now it's Dana 44 Hight-pinion, but the original front-axle was a Dana 30.
The Venexuelan XJs use the Dana44 ojd project.

Most problems in Holland are with gas(LPG) running cars.

I have an old Italian system made by a company called BRC. The system was sold under the model name Just(tm) and installed by a specialist in England. It is a simple single point venturi system and has been reliable for the last 100,000 miles.

Vince,
Do you find it annoying to have to reach over the entire console to get to the 4x4 shifter? It seems to me that would be the most annoying detail of RHD XJs.
I should get Rainer to post some pics of his Diesel XJ here.
Vince
October 22nd, 2009, 15:49
I find on LHD XJ's I sometimes skin my knuckles going for the lever. On RHD only my finger tips touch the console. It's actually not much of a stretch to grab the lever with your left as long you are looking for it.
The biggest problem is that you are actually invading your passenger's personal space. Finding the lever in the dark with a female passenger in the front seat can lead to a slap in the face.

Make sure you bring a reasonable stock of spare parts with you. Replacement parts are expensive in Europe unless you have access to cheap or free transatlantic shipping. Oil filters are not much more expensive as they have interchangeability with European equivalents. U-joints, unit bearings and anything that is typically only used on American vehicles are usually going to cost more from European suppliers.

Its a stock aluminium Jeep bumper that came with the sport package here in Australia. Almost every XJ sport has one, but i've trimmed mine up quite a fair bit - im planning on importing a hanson prerunner bar and modding it a little bit to suit my needs.
Here is a pic of what the bumper looks like on a couple of other XJ's.

Here is a few vids and pics of my xj in action. Didnt get any fotage of the harder stuff, but did manage to dent the right hand sil, scratch and break rear left bushwacker flare and flatten out the transfer case skid :D.

Nice Jeep! What's the story behind that hood you've got?
Just a normal hood with two holes in it and two hood scoops from Lund Industries riveted on top.

I've not seen a spoiler like that over the rear window - is it stock with that package or is it aftermarket?

It was standard on the European Orvis model. It also has pretty much every option available on an xj and a higher spec interior with more leather and wood than the Limited. It also has fake hood vents.

That's part of the UK-only Orvis edition XJ.
Here's another (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/jeep-cherokee-orvis-t-diesel-needs-clutch-spares-repair-/160440856940?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item255b05316c#ht_500wt_1154)

I forgot to tell you that my XJ is a 4.0 Limited automatic with an LPG system (gasoline is very expensive in Italy something like 1.40€ for 1 liter:shocked::shocked:.. propane costs 0.60€ for 1 liter)
2 years ago I had a 1998 XJ but it was a 2.5 turbodiesel manual.. ..an incredibly unreliability.. ..the head cracks every 60k miles and you have to change it (approximately 2000€):shocked:
Now I'm very satisfied of my 4.0 and the automatic transmission is awesome!
I't hard to believe for you but in Italy 95% of people are unable to drive an automatic.. ..everybody drive a stickshift..http://i35.tinypic.com/bfnofp.jpg

Meh, not really in the spirit of "international" but whatev's:
(I am using real Canadian hockey pucks for my bumpstops up front, if that counts as exotic foreign modifications...)

'91 laredo aw4 4.0 bastard pack rear, hillbilly homemade spacers + v8 grand coils up front, ARB d30 and '87 xj D44 with Aussie in the rear, both with Yukon 4.88s, 35s with fender chop up front, fully cut and re-welded fenderwells in the rear (more drastic than cut n' fold), warn m8000 on homemade bumper, rockers cut and 2x6 tubed, stock JK shocks... mid-life crisis is in full swing here.

For anyone wondering, that is a factory van version. We used to see them pretty regularly in Ireland, but I also remember spotting them in the UK, France, Italy, and Croatia. Most are gone by now courtesy of failing their biannual roadworthiness test. Kind of sad for me seeing as how this was the first version of the XJ I ever drove.

G'day folks, another Aussie here.
Just lifted my baby after damn near 4 years of planning to. Funding never quite got there until last month. I'm now running an OME lift with the ZJ V8 coils up front, 2" rear leaf packs with an extra leaf and nitrosport shocks all round.
Stoked as with how its sitting now on a set of Federal 31x10.5 MT's now just figuring out brakelines, D/C's, LCAs and SYE!

I'm running the same springs as you are. I run the regular OME shocks instead of the nitrosports. You Aussies know how to make a suspension and lights(I run lightforce lights on my XJ as well)!
