WIll it work 2001 4.0 converted to a 99 4.0

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I am at work and internet time is limited.........I found a great deal on a 2001 4.0 engine out of a Cherokee with 50,000 miles. I know it's the distributorless engine but can it be made to work for a 99 jeep cherokee (which is what I have)???? It seems like I read somewhere before where you can insert the distributor and use it in these engines, am I crazy??????

Yeah, distributor can be inserted. The 0331 head on the 2001 is prone to crack and the exhaust ports are smaller, so you may want to swap in your old '99 head. That will also make exhaust hook easier.
