Front Axle U-joint

Hi,
I took the front drive shaft over to the local driveline shop to have the front u-joint replaced, and the double cardan joint re-built. Now I'm having a problem getting the new front u-joint to seat in the yoke. The bearing cups are about 1.5 mm too far apart. The shop said to press them together with a vise .. apparently you should hear them "snap" into place. I've had no luck so far.
Does anyone have any insight on this ? What should I do ?

Thanks for your help.

Better take it apart, pull off the caps, and look to see if any needle bearings fell over.

X3 on the needle bearings being dislodged from between the inside of the U joint cap and trunion to between the trunion and the end of the U joint cap.

When you replace a U joint on the pinion end of the driveshaft... the new one should drop into the pinion yoke as easy as the old one came out...
