How can i tell which rearend i have without tearing into it. I have a 95 Chero sport 4x4 with the 4.0 auto tranny and np231 trans. Im thinkin about gettin a detroit locker and im tryin to figure out whether i have a D35 or 8.25 or whatever

There should be a little tag on the drivers side rear of the axle other then that,Im not a gurue who can look at it and say what it is.

Stick your thumb in your rearend, if it feels smooth it's a 8.25 Chyco if it's rough and threaded it's a Dana.

An easy way to tell is if the bottom of the diff is flat and has a definite "lip," its a Chryco 8.25, if it's curved, it's a Dana 35.

the lipp is very very noticable on the 8.25 .
