95 AW4 clunking....

I have a 95 with 155,000 miles on the tranny and I noticed If I put the shift selector into the 3 position that when coming to a stop it will clunk when the transmission downshifts into what I think is second gear. If I have it in overdrive it never does it. I'm thinking it's a mount. Also, I don't know if this is related but lets say I'm going up a steep incline...If I were to stop and crank the wheel right (in 2 Wheel Drive) and stomp the gas theres a pretty serious shimmy that I'm feeling in the driveline up front somewhere. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks- Josh

Have you checked your U-joints lately?

I did about 6 mos ago they seemed good, I don't really go wheeling that often and when I do its not hard core wheeling seeing that I'm bone stock. So I'd say that they should still be good...

i would actually look at them, I have had them fail 5 days after I checked them.
