Anybody know if a hitch from a pre-97 XJ will fit on a 97+? I haven't had any luck answering that question after reading through existing threads. Thank you.

Yes the hitch is the same from 87 to 01, Mopar part#82204709
I had a 1994 4X4 that had a Reese on it.
I purchased a 2001 Sport 2wd.
Tried to remove the hitch from the 94 and bolt
it on the 2001. Gas tank clearance was different.
In spite of many, many replies to the contrary
I believe there is a difference. Now, difference
may be going from 4X4 to 2wd, but in my case,
hitch would not fit on newer jeep.

The problem was the Reese hitch, of course. Quality brand name hitches will fit on all years.

I took the DrawTite off my '91 before I sold it.
Fit right on my '99.
