welding question

Link only took me to the front page, didn't show a specific product. But..
6010 rods would be my choice. 6011 would also work but a bit harder to use.
Connect the batteries in series.

I've used car batteries and jumper cables to weld my crossmember back up after I ripped all the bolts off on a trail once. It was intended as a 'get it back to the campsite and see what we can do' fix.

Well, here's how it ended up:

which is by far not the worst weld I've ever seen.

I'd never do it intentionally, but it can be used as a welding supply when you need it. What we did was actually use my parking brake spring as the connector between the two batteries, and by varying the amount of wraps that connected them I could control the current going through the welding rod. More wraps = hotter, less wraps = colder.

Got me off the trail and I drove probably 500+ miles on it before 'fixing' it for real.

Ya it seems like an excellent safety repair, and so easy to just carry couple extra electrodes. Thanks for the replies. hopefully i wont have to use them.
