Transmission Codes

P0740- TCC
P0705- Trans Range Sensor

I'm getting 9mgs and it sometimes makes a ratteling noise that kind of sounds like a bad torque converter. I've done some research and figured out that the 740 could be mechanical or electical? I do not know very much about this. I do know the Jeep is a 97 and the tranny is a 98, so the wires going to the tranny have been spliced. I have also put a 98 TCM in it. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, the P0705 is the NSS. Is yours hooked up after the swap? The NSS may be different between those two years as well.

It is hooked up. The first 98 tranny that was in it never threw the code which leads me to believe they are the same between years.

I am also troubleshooting a 740 code on my 2000xj
if you do a search for 'torque converter lockup' you will see my thread and some possible things to check for. Checking the resistance on the solenoids or wiring that goes to the solenoid is a good place to start.

Clean the NSS before you go any further.
