Dana 30 axle shaft paint question

I am painting my rebuilt D30. When I cleaned up my rusty axle shafts I really couldn't tell if there was paint mixed in with all of that rust. Should the axle shaft ears and part of the shaft be painted for corrosion protection, or is this a waste of time and effort that will have little benefit?

It dont matter if they are painted or not. It also won't hurt to throw a coat on them either, just don't paint the splines or the machined surface where the seal rides.

I'll throw a coat on there just for the heck of it...see how long it lasts. Thanks for the reply.
