This might be of interest, more or less off the shelf parts and engine no less.
Caught my attention as I have my eye on a cherry 89YJ with a blown engine for $800, he just wants it gone.

One of my buddies put a turbo 4bt into a YJ, twin dana 60's to hold it. Sucker was nasty. Sold it for 12500 I think. Some guy saw it and bought it from him in a parking lot right then.

His mileage looks good, 20mpg one way, 29mpg on the trip back.
