I just bought a 94 xj and it has key-less entry but I don't have a remote for it is there a place to buy one besides the dealer I already checked they want 143.00 bucks just for the transmitter or do I go after market. Also does anyone know what wires are for what in the module in the head liner. Thanks for any help .

wire in one of these

into the stock circuit.
The IR one blows anyway.

I installed the Commando Alarms KE-30 in my 87, and I would recommend it. Most aftermarket systems have their own antenna wire which I just tucked under the dash, so you won't even need to use that little black bulb. Plus you can have features like parking light flash, dome light flash, and horn honking...not sure if the older XJ's had those features.

well if it hit the horn and turn on and off the parking lights and open and close the door. i think i can imitate those results.

I have one in my 90XJ Limited. It was a joke being IR. I had to be just outside the vehicle for it to work line of sight. The batteries for the remote are expensive too. Cheaper and easier to install a simple aftermarket alarm instead.

Have you actually installed this one, and if so, how well does it work?

I bought an Audiovox unit at Autozone for $50 and it came with 2 transmitters.

These setups sound nice because the OEM sucks since it is infra red.

No I haven't.
I don't even have power locks.
My keyless entry is my pocketknife
but it's just a relay. I'm not sure how the factory one works, but somewhere in that mess it's go to trip a relay, so that would be where you would wire in the new receiver.
Edit:
the NAXJA forum software comes through again.
this like was at the bottom of the page

just goes' to show, it's all been done before. So search!

In my '88, there's a pair of relays under the pass side kick panel. One for lock, one for unlock. My AV unit merely connects to the trip wires for each relay. Like in your link, if you don't need the lights to flash and horn to beep (etc.), it's just a few wires.

Just to give a heads-up to everyone. This unit will not work as it's an ON or OFF remote. When ON, it’s continually on, the circuit is closed....and of course when OFF it’s completely off.
Keyless entry needs the quick pulse to trigger the locks...this unit doesn't have it!
Here's my post...I found out the hard way!

No problem 87manche!
It was a learning experience understanding how it all works...when I do it for real, it will be a breeze!

I installed a Bulldog Security RS-202E remote starter last fall and love it!
It took me about 4.5 hours to install because I'm really picky about how I do electrical work. All of the connections are soldered, heatshrink insulated, and zip tied.
The kit also has the option for a trunk release, which I don't have. So I decided to have a little fun with that part. I wired the output for the trunk release to a relay that activates my 3 trumpet air horn setup. When I push the trunk button it gives a 3/4 second blast on the air horns.
This came in handy one time when I was coming out from getting a haircut and some little pissant kids were leaning on the front of my XJ talking. I think the one kid shat himself:D

so this WOULD work as a fuel pump shutoff / killswitch...

I thought about that. I would rather have a switch to turn off and on to bypass the fuelpump, than rely on a remote.
