check engine light issue!!

my check engine light NEVER works, not even when i turn the key to the on position. ive checked the bulb and its good, and even went so far as to pull the ecu to make sure it was workin (seems to be). there is just no power getting to the light and i cant find any wiring diagrams that show what colored wires go to what. i tried to pull the codes hopin maybe it would spark something but i got nothin!! soooo, rather than take apart the whole dash if anybody has any suggestions or weak links you know of i would love to hear them and hopefully fix the dang thing. oh, its an 87 renix.

you are sure the bulb is good?

very sure, i swapped in the bulb and connector to a socket i know worked perfectly.

87 - 90 4.0l XJs do not use a check engine light. Don't worry about it.

87-90 only have a maintenance required light which is only a reminder to change the o2 sensor. its a timer thats supposed to go on at 82,500 miles

oh...ok....well then i guess i wont worry about it.... thanks again.
