I searched and didn't find the same issue, but the answer may be the same.

When I'm wheeling in 4low going downhill, my XJ will stall if I push in the clutch to downshift or stop. It doesn't do this any other time and the last time it happened, I had 3/4 of a tank of gas.

Is this a fuel pump issue?

96 XJ Sport-standard transmission.

Thanks!

When was the last time you did a basic tune up? (ie: plugs, wires, cap and rotor?)

I would say it a fuel pickup issue, the pickup tube and sock has a crack.

that or the IAC is reacting slowly, with the throttle closed in high engine braking situations my 87 MJ did the same thing. I cleaned the IAC passage and it improved, but still happened occasionally, replacing the IAC solved my problem.

Sorry for the stupidity, but what is IAC?

Thanks for the feedback!
