listen to this and tell me if you think it sounds like a rod or exhaust.

Trying to decide if I should fly/bus/ride down and drive it back or go get it with a tow dolly .........a 350 mile trip one way.

sounds like some serious valve tick to me but im no expert.

Did this start all of a sudden ? Sounds like lifters and piston slap to me. Whats the oil pressure and mileage? Does the sound change at higher RPM's or after its ran a few minutes? Oh yeah...year/tranny?

I do not know if it changes with rpms or any of the particulars for that matter.

Just bought it online and was trying to decide whether or not to just drive it home or go get it with my tow dolly. 350 mile drive oneway.

Decided to to just go get with the dolly...........I would hate to be sittin' on the road some where in this heat waiting for my wife to bring the tow dolly.
