Are all jeep 4.0 renix engines? If not is my 92 Xj 4.0 H.O.a renix ,and what does renix mean?

renix was the computer system that controlled 87-90 jeep 4.0s, after 90, chrysler switched the computer to the "H.O." which is OBD (on board diagnostic) compliant.

Renix's are left over from the AMC era, even tho some of the 89s and 90s have chrysler badging, they are still AMCs at heart.

personally, i have 2 renix and 2 H.O.s and i like the renix's better, because they are easier to troubleshoot.

The HO's are not OBD till after 96

all HOs throw codes, which can be retrieved from the computer by cycling the ignition switch, this means the computer actually knows whats wrong and can tell the operator...on board diagnostic...after 96 it was OBDII....second gen.
