My buddy made his own out of rubber flooring and fastened with zip ties. It really helps keep slop out of the engine compartment.

You could probably make a front skid for about $50 and it would keep more than mud and splashed water out!

I put on a factory front skid and it does better, i also used some snips to cut some thin aluminum to make a splash guard under the alternator. Now when i come back from wheeling, no more mud all over the motor, and zero chance of the alternator getting splashed.
