Does a CPS either work or not?

I'm getting a surging sometimes when I am keeping even pressure on the gas. I've changed out the coil, and the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor have 20-25k on them. TPS is about that old. I've been wondering about the CPS. Is it one of those things that either work or don't?
Thanks in advance

Nope. They do stupid things. Like only work when it's warm. However, when they f' up they just kill the engine instantly.

Probably not your problem. I thinks vacuum leak perhaps.

I had a TPS go goofy - it would cause surging outside of the flat spot, and it had a flat spot around 2500-2800rpm.

A CPS will usually either work or not - but a possible test is to unplug the thing, blow out both connectors, and then plug it back in - if it's dirty terminals, that will show it up and you can clean them.
