Transfer Case Slips Out of Gear

I have a 94 Sport 4.0 Auto w/ what i believe is a 231 TRANSFER CASE

In low speds such as 4 wheelin thru the woods and stuff its ok but when im on the road at higher speeds like when i have it in 4 wheel drive during snow storms , it slips out of 4WD into neutral especially when i am braking or de-accellerating. This of course makes a hell of a grinding noise. If I stop and put it in 2wd then bacik into 4wd its ok.

Any thoughts on what this could be??? :flamemad:

Replies are GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks in advance

Mine does the same thing. Until you fix the linkage just pull your shifter from 2wd to 4hi until it clicks the first time. It won't look like its in 4hi but it will be.

Yours was doing it lastnight too lol?

I also make it a rule of thumb not to go faster than 40 in 4hi.

yes it did do it last night...everyone was out playing in the snow...lol

scaredtghe crapoutta me, i thought that the transfer had blown !!!

Whens the last time you checked the fluid?
Linkage could be the problem but seldom do they need readjusted.
especially when i am braking or de-accellerating

Could also be a bad mount, engine or transmission.
