AC question, searched

Just bought a XJ, 99, 4.0

Anyway, with the AC on or defrost, i can watch teh compressor kick on, when it does this the blet squeaks for about 5 seconds then the compressor shuts off. It stays off for about 15 seconds and kicks on again. It keeps doing this. Im thinking the compressor is half seized. But what would make it cycle if it was seized?

Quick cycleing usually means a low charge. Is the belt slipping? ck tension & condition hopefully thats it and not your compressor
