4.0 and AMC 360 bellhousings?

Ok so heres the scoop, got a newtome 90 model 2 door and the trans and tcase are shot. Ive got a 79 wag sitting at the house and was wondering if the 4.0 and older amc bellhousings are the same? To answer a few questions, yes i know the tcase will be on the wrong side, swapping the front axle also. Im wanting to put in an amc pattern th400 d20 combo without putting the whole drivetrain in it. I also realize that i will have to make provisions for the cps and reluctor ring on the flexplate, and cut the passenger floor to clear the tcase. Any takers on my delimma?

Same pattern, it'll bolt up. As you mentioned the CPS is another issue.

why mess with the cps? The 360 is a carbed,non computer controlled engine. just wire it into your xj's ignition system.

I would drop the 360 in, however i really dont want to deal with cooling issues that would arise from it.
