does any one know if an 88 auto 4.0l tranny will fit in a 94 4.0l high output auto also thanks

It should bolt up. What are you swapping? 88 tranny into 94 vehicle? Or a 94 engine into an 88 XJ? Don't forget the AW4 is an electronically controlled tranny.

Are you keeping the transfer cases with their respective transmissions? I'm pretty sure that the AW4 output shaft was 21 spline in 88 and 23 spline in 94. If you swap the transmission and transfer case as an assembly, you should be fine.
