I have a 88xj :viking: with a slipping trans. Thought it was an aw4, not sure. 1st and 2nd are in the same location, then 3rd,4th, drive and rev. The #.s on the tranny are 88fc 61853. Jeep says its not factory.:confused1
Any help with id would be great.

88 should be an aw4. It does have the 4.0L, right?

sounds like you need to change the fluid and filter. install a tranny cooler if you want it to last!

Slipping can be the TV cable needs adjusted.

do a filter change, then next time you change your oil, do another filter change.

I had an 88 that would lose power in the corners all the time. After 2 filter replacements, it was back to "new"

Yeah, do that, but make sure you dont strip out those crappy little wussie bolts that hold in the tranny pan

:shiver:Thanks for the help on the tranny guys. We noticed while it was on the rack that, Theres 2 adapter plates on the tranns and the numbers we found today listed the trans as a 1994 chrysler. Why some one went through that much trouble for a 50. dollar tranny is beyond me. I do have a new aw4 waiting to go in.:jester:
