I am about to do gears on my XJ (got crappy 3.07 ones).
I was wondering about compatibilities, new gearsets are too expensive, will have to pay like 550-600USD for the gears and carriers (both axles since my carriers will no longer do the job for me), so I'm planning to get some used set.
Someone is offering me the gearsets and carriers from a YJ jeep. Some friend told me that it will work, he told me I could even use everything except the D30 gearset from a TJ if I wanted (as I have reverse-cut gearset).
I really don't have experience on diffs, I have a person with experience who will do the job for a decent price, so I just need to get all the pieces he needs and be 100% sure I'll be buying the correct stuff.
Are the carriers/gearsets compatible from c-clip and no c-clip diffs, do I have to be cautious with splines and such things?
BTW, I have a 1988 XJ with 4.0 engine, manual tranny and D30/35 axles.
