Axle questions

wrecked

NAXJA Forum User
I'm thinking I want to swap out my current 44/9" combo for something new and slightly narrower. I also want to convert to leafs up front.

I know that I could go with a wheel with more backspacing to make my axles narrower. However, I have the Ford radius arm setup and I believe I read that the mounts for those cannot be removed from the axle unless a new axle tube was installed. Would this be true?

As far as options go. I searched and found this thread http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=77121&highlight=bolt+d60
and it seems that a mid 80's J20 would be a good canidate for stealing the axles from.

I think that I may finally step up to 5.38's. My 9" has a spool and thats not casued any problems but I think I'd go actual lockers front and rear this time.

Finally frame plating. Obviously I'm going to have to do it. I've read up on people using C channel. The only problem I find with that is should the "C" channel run all the way up the "frame" to the floorboard or should it stop about a 1/4" from the floorboard?

Any suggestions? I'm still researching if I really do want to do this, but any and all help is appreciated.
