231 long/short tail

what year started the longer tailed 231? I've got a friend who wants to lift his 93 xj by about 4.5" but I remember that after a certain year a sye is almost neccesary? He is being careful to plan for all the expenses and I'm helping him get his duxks in a row. Thank. TIA Travis.

Plan on dropping the t-case or buying Rusty's x-member with 1"drop built into it (looses no ground clearance vs. factory depth). The yoke ears will almost certainly bind on itself at that height(mine did at 4" on a '94),unless it's a 4 cylinder model. I've heard a YJ yoke will fix it,but not 100% certain on that.
