1987 yj 4.2 l6. runs great on the road, matter of fact it rune xlnt. just wont idle, dies right away...any ideas....

pop you air filter off and have someone start it, flip up the fastidle lever near the throttle, then look into the bore of the carb, if you see gas dribbling out you need to clean the carb venturies and idle tubes or do a carb rebuild. Carb rebuild is somewhat easy on these and there are several articles with pics. I'm doing mine this weekend. I ran a small fine wire drill thru the idle tubes last nite and got pieces of varnish out of them.
