If you're going full cage...why don't you install 4- or 5-point harnesses for the rear passengers?

I'm gonna be chopping just behind the rear doors also on mine...but I'm gonna be doing an MJ tailgate in the rear, and the cage will be going from the top of the C-pillar down to that. So I'm planning on just relocating the upper mount for the seat belt onto that downtube for the cage.

I attached the belts to the C pillar of the roll cage.

The early XJ's didn't have rear shoulder belts, just lap belts. That was the case on both of my '89s, but my '91 has the shoulder belts. You could find the setup out of an older model to eliminate the shoulder belts. Only you can decide on the passenger safety issues involved with that though.

You can kinda see where I relocated the factory bracket.
I just cut it and welded it to the bar.
