Do I really need to change my brake shoes?

The ones now are just about a mm thinner than the new ones...maybe even less. My springs look new. Actually, on the other side, the pins that hold the break holdown springs look new from the outside (I have not taken the wheel off yet)
My original complaint was that they were noisy sometimes during rain. The noise was like someone is dragging big piece of metal behind the car.
Whadja think? IMHO I need some simple adjustment, like playing with the adjustment wheel a little...

As long as both shoes are roughly the same thickness, I would not bother changing them. They are about 90%.
