HP30 vs. LP30

What's the advantage of the high pinion Dana 30 vs. the newer style low pinion Dana 30? Besides clearance? Can non disco 297x shafts be used in a newer low pinion Dana 30 that came with disco shaft?

ground clearance and decreased front driveshaft angles. a non-disco shaft will fit in a disco housing, but the shift mechanism needs to be modified or removed and a new oil seal needs to be installed since the non-disco shaft has a smaller O.D. than the disco shaft does.

Front Axles
Dana 30 high pinion - reverse cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear ( used 1984-99 ) -some axles through 1991 are vacuum disconnect. 1992+ are non-disconnect. 1989-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all 1995+ have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints.

Dana 30 low pinion - standard cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear, 5-297x u-joints non-disconnect - used 2000-01.
