Which axle ahs what size drums?

WITH 10 X 1 3/4" BRAKES

Which axles have which drums?

I believe most of the stock XJ axles have the 9" drums. The D35 I had in my '89 had the larger 10" drums, but I don't know the rhyme or reason behind it. It was a 5-speed tranny and no tow options. Both of my 8.25 axles have the smaller 9" drums. I think all D44 axles have the larger brakes too. Not much help, I know.

It goes by year, not by axle. Thru '89 the used 10" drums -- 10 x 1-3/4" on the Dana 35 and 10" x 2-1/2" on the Dana 44.

Chrysler likes puny 9" drums, so in 1990 (91?) they changed to using 9" x 2-1/2" on all axles.
