Fuel Tank

Here is the problem, the 84 is a mechanical fuel pump on the engine. The later model is an electric fuel pump in the tank. If you are swaping the engine to a EFI motor, you can swap the tank, but you will need to rig switched 12v to the fuel pump. Physically, they will swap and are the same size. You might be able to rig the new tank by pulling out the fuel pump and rig a new pickup.

actually I tried on an 86 to 88 and all the tank pickup parts fit in without any fuss, jsut took out the efi stuff and put in the pickup stuff, they both hang off the same size and location
 
As a related item to this thread, the fuel pump from an '87 to '95 Wrongler is the same pump as the fuelie XJ.

How does that relate to this thread? The issue is adapting a fuel injection tank that has an internal electric fuel pump to a vehicle that did not have fuel injection or an electric fuel pump.

It has to do with fuel.....So I guess it's related.....kinda a real distant cousin.
