A/C port question

I have the wally world special recharge kit ready to go, but I cannot for the life of me turn the valve to open up the port.

I know that there is a special tool out there, but a 1/4" wrench fits just fine.

Do you have to push in, or what? It just won't budge left or right to open or close and I'm starting to strip the end off

Well, I know for me I always use a 6" cresent wrench. It's left hand threaded. (You are talking that shaft in front of the port, where you have to remove the cap, right?)

I ended up taking a 1/4" socket, ground some flats in it, and put a pair of vise grips on it.

That, along with copious amounts of lube and a few taps, allowed it to move.
