Noise question???

My '01 4.0 seems to have more engine noise than my old '93
and what's all this hype about the engine being quieter?
I noticed there's no hood pad on the new XJ's
I even asked the dealer to see if I had a manifold leak (no)
what gives?

The make alot more clicking, you can hear the injectors working. I've never seen hood padding on an XJ so if some had it and now they don't they probably did discontinue it. You could probably buy it from the dealer and add it if you wanted to. Me, I like to be able to hear the motor, I'm so used to the sound that I can pick up on things when they change.

My 00 XJ isn't much a quieter than my old 88, just a tad maybe.

Actually, I thought the newer models would be different in many ways...mileage, reliability, creature comforts...they really haven't changed much which is a bit of a disappointment but I guess "if it aint broke...."

The biggest change is power, that's definitely noticable in the new XJs.
