Bad news for the NE.....

SAVOY, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation is banning off road vehicles at the Savoy Mountain State Forest. State officials are citing environmental damage and safety concerns for its decision. There are 30 miles of trails at Savoy. Vehicles weighing less than 1,000 pounds will be permitted as of May 1st on trails at the Pittsfield, October Mountain, Beartown, and Tolland State Forests in Berkshire Co

this is "immediately" directed at the ATV/bike crowd but DOES have potential future ramifications to ALL vehicles... there was a "town meeting" up there on wednesday but i didnt get to it.. this closure doesnt just mean no atvs in the forest.. it means that 70% of the ATV and bike enthusiasts that stayed at the whitcomb summit motel because of it's close proximity to the forest were CANCELLED THE VERY NEXT DAY after the press-release.... ed and carol (the owners of the motel) are very supportive of OHV usage in their area, and they are feeling the sting of this closure as well... it's likely they WILL NOT reverse the recent decision, and in reality it will probably end up permanent..

just because YOU are not an ATV'er doesnt mean you should ignore this issue...
you have no idea how close we really are to losing even more wheeling spots here in Ma...
