Having opened my transfer case (twice) as well as my differential I have come to the concluskion that I am totally ignorant as the proper technique of sealing a case with silicone. I ALWAYS have oil seepage afterward. PLEASE is there someone who has successfully mastered this every time without leaks that can tell me exactly how it is done? TIA

First, you must make sure the mating surfaces and gasket sufaces are CLEAN. Scrape off the old gasket material, then clean with brake cleaner or carb cleaner or some other type of solvent. Goop your favorite type of RTV on their, leave it alone for a few minutes, then bolt the two parts together just until they are finger tight, let sit for an hour, then snug the bolts up. Don't add any fluid for another hour. Works for me.
