I have an 89 model xj with all the original wiring and a 98 engine, head and trottle body. Wondering what spark plugs to use? Also would the tps settings be the same.

the 98 model engine has a deeper electrode than the original 89 engine did. Is the 98 plug hotter or is the gap different.

The 98 engine has a different head design than the '89 so I'd start with the correct plug for a 98 and see how it runs.

Runs ok with the 98 plugs before it warms up then it starts skipping a little until about 2000 rpm but idles fine. I adjusted the tps it was just a touch out but that didnt cure it. Maybe new cap and rotor?

Suggest you change the CPS (crank position Sensor) if you have not already done so - you are way overdue and skipping at light throttle usually indicates a CPS about to quit completely.
