AW-4 in TJ

In the new TJ's, is the 4-speed tranny an AW-4 that we know and trust? If so, what did they do to make it fit the short Wrangler?

No its a new tranny. I cannot remember its code though.

Has there been any issues about reliability yet? My wife has the 3-spd in her '98 and I was thinking about doing a swap to get better mileage and get rid of the loud engine noise on the highway.

Yep, something new and different. AW4 is being fased out I believe. Why, I don't know. One of the best trannies ever.

P.S. The AW4 was a little too long for the YJs and TJs. I KNOW that they used the TF 727 and 999 in the YJ which is a shorter tranny but neither of those had OD.
