Instead of Hollister lets make it Moab. Come on guys, I know you want to go. We could have one hell of a convoy.

First week of Oct. IS close to Moab! Amy and are leaving for Moab on the 5th, going through central Nevada and hopefully camping at Great Basib NP on the way. Anybody eles in the Sierra chapter going to Moab for fall fling?
SeanP
August 15th, 2002, 22:33
I think that Marni and I will be attending Moab. I think that I will be towing with my Tundra if I can get my friend tom to let me borrow his trailer. Seems like a fair trade, I save his life (ok, maybe I am stretching it a bit  ) and he lets me borrow his trailer. I mean, sheesh, it's not his first-born or anything.
Back to the topic at hand. A nice get together in Nor Cal would work.

I am going to Moab. Not sure when I'll be leaving but I'll try to hook up with someone so it's not such a lonely drive out.
Sounds like a begining of October get together won't work, maybe at the end of Oct or the begining of November? Would be cool to get everyone together(from stockers to junk)for some light wheeling and a BBQ.

I should start to slow down with work around then so any ti,e in Oct is cool with me. Moab is not going to happen but Hollister would be a lot of fun even for families.

I wish Moab could be in this years plans but I am out of vacation time. I'm shooting for the Aniversary affair next year.
A family event would be cool end of Oct/Nov. Kim (wifey) got behind the wheel last weekend up in the Pincrest area and LOVED it. She needs more exposure so I can get my Jeep fund back.

You have just figured out my financing scheme. Works very well. I am still working on the whole Atlas sales pitch. "Slower is better, honey. It is safer and it means we won't roll the jeep" See what I did there: I brought the whole saftey factor into play. Lessons will continue at next pizza meeting.

Sean, you've been a funny mo'fo lately.
Hey, speaking of October, who is going to the Rubicon Cleanup?
I better get like 20 positive responses, or I'm gonna have to bust some heads. If you drive the trail, shit on the trail, or drip oil from your junk on the trail, you better be there!
I know SeanP is up (turd/tampon patrol?), who else?

SeanP
August 16th, 2002, 09:14
I will be up there. I have enough trouble cleaning up my dogs shiznit, I don't think that I will be on turd patrol.
There is a thread on the pirate board about this right now. Some folks are going to come in from the Springs side and clean thru to spider. I thought this would be cool and Crash can bring his trailer for this patrol.
By the way, last year marni won the winch in the raffle and this year is supposed to have tons of prizes.

SeanP nice tip on the Atlas......safety is a big concern of hers. I'm still working on a new exhaust pitch right now, or maybe I won't tell her if I get a raise. At least she doesn't care about body damage.
Con clean-up definitely sounds like something we should ALL be involved with even if you haven't run the trail yet. If not, it may not be there when your junk is capable. I'll probably have room for a "new" co-pilot.

Lots of bags. No cheapy kitchens bags unless you want to cleanup your cleanup. You should bring your rain and winter gear with extra gloves. It can get real cold in October. Gloves you don't give a $hit about. If anybody was there 2 year ago....... it got cold. The water in my coolers froze. Never seen that happen. No problem keeping the beer cold. The problem was getting it out of the cooler. Last year was perfect though.

well, I've been visiting NAXJA for about a year now, I used to have an XJ, now have MJ. I think this would be a good opportunity to go on my first run with the group. When/where is the next meeting? The meet and greets are the first Thursday of the month at Round Table Pizza on Keifer Blvd. @ 6:30 PM. Take I-80 into town, then pick up Hwy 50 towards Lake Tahoe, exit Watt Ave. South, go south to the 3rd stop light and turn left (Keifer Blvd.), go through the next stop light and look for a bunch of XJ's parked on the right in the Round Table parking lot.
Hope to finally meet ya!

so Sept. 6 then for a meet and greet? I think I will need to make it to that one. I've already met Gary E. (swapped some axles) and Kevin and i look forward to meeting (and wheelin with) the rest of you.
I'll have the flat black MJ on 33s...

Can a visiting NAXJA member from Fla join up with ya'll on the Hollister run on the 21st-22nd? I'm staying in Carson City, NV until the Moab event. I'd also like to try to make it down for the Thur m&g. Any problem with that?

I'll call them to make sure they're open on those dates.
Don, you're welcome to come to the Hollister run or any of our meet&greets.

Bring the kids, this is meant as a "family" type event and a chance to meet some of the people you're (hopefully) going to wheel with.
Lisa and I will also spend the night. Hmmmmm..can you say margaritas? I new you could 8)
I make a motion to spend some of the Sierra Chapter funds ($40) on Hot Dogs and buns. Any discussion?

Crash....
Don't think I can do much on the Rubicon just yet, for a couple reasons. I'm still at only 3" and 31's and the 31's are probably closer to 29's, they're worn pretty thin. Price shopping for some BFG 32's rite now, but will prolly have to get another set of wheels, I screwed up and got 7" wheels when I replaced the (bent) originals. The other thing is, from what I've been hearing the Rubicon is at least an overnighter as well as is Barrett & my camping so far has been limited to a 30' motorhome. Plan to pick up a tent & some other odd's 'n ends soon, but 'till I do I have to stick to a moderate one-day run. If you know of anything like that, I'd be happy to join you. I'm in the process of doing some repairs at the moment, but shud be done in a week or so.
Jes...
Thanks, I will plan to get down for the m&g the 5th. Need to talk to some folks @ R.E. and 4WPW, prob will come down & make a day of it.

Hi Don!!! Welcome back out west. BS on you not making it thru the rubicon. You have a locker. As long as you have rocker protection and tow hooks we can get you thru any of the obstacles and bypasses without body damage. SKidplates would be helpful, tho. As far as the tent, I have extra tents and sleeping bags galore. As long as you aren't camped near water (mosquitos)you don't really need a tent up there though, open air camping is great. I am planning for a few Sept and Oct trips, I am sure Crash and Jes wouldbe up for some more tour guide action.

DonH, FWIW I have run 33x12.50s on 7 inch rims, if they are stock backspacing you will need spacers for the rear, you might skate by with 32s though, I was using the cheapo spacers from pepboys. If you have aftermarket alloy rims (whcih are mostly 3.75bs) I would say they would probably be ideal, well with some sawzall work!

Sean .. Thanx for the offer, it's really appreciated. Actually, I have some of the stuff already & can pick up a tent & mattress fairly cheaply. The XJ has t-case, rocker & gastank skids & a rear locker. The 31's have just about reached the end of their useful life, had a slight traction problem in Moab, believe it or not!! So, 32's or as someone suggested 33X9.5's are going on soon. COSTCO will sell me the BFG 32X11.5's but wont mount 'em on less than 8" rims. Still lookin'. I'll yak atcha'll about it next week at the m&g.
Gary E .. I've got aftermarket rims with 4 5/8" backspacing. Danno's daughter is set up w/32X11.5's on stock rims, works great, stuff's well, was a very slight rub if I recall that Dan fixed. I've got the Warn hub conversion that puts the front wheel 3/4" further out, just enuff to rub really hard on the flares, caved in the bottom rear of the pass side fender. Plan on Bushwacher flares soon, Summitt Racing carries 'em and are in the Reno area.
See ya'll next week

Hey Sacto-
I'll be just fine. I'm doing the LASIK vision correction surgery. I've been lookin forward to this ever since I saw Friday the 13th for the first time and Jason jumped out of the water and grabbed that chick in the canoe at the end of the movie and I couldn't sleep at all that night cause all I can see is a big dark blur and every now and again other dark blurs. In fact, if I take my contacts out at night in the wintertime and Andy stands next to a wall I can't see him any longer. Which is sometimes not such a bad thing. Anyway, they're doing both eyes in about 15 minutes and then they give me drugs. I guess. Or something. At least I hope they give me drugs. Someone better give me drugs.

Why don't you all head up to Meadow Lake? There are at least four different trails up there that will suite the needs of all of the range of vehicles we have. This is where Cal4Wheel stages for Sierra Trek, and they offer the long and short wheelbase runs as well as an SUV run.
Camping is great, and fre. There are bathrooms, and the camping is right on the lake!
How can you beat this?

Bummer on Hollister the 21-22. Do they post a schedule of events when the park will be open or closed? My PC won't load their web page for some reason.
Meadow Lake would be great weekend of 28-29 since that was my plan already. Camp / wheel on Saturday, then head up the hill to CalRocs at Donner on Sunday. If you have never been to a comp I would recomend it. Something about watching other people throw their rigs around doing cartwheels and such that just makes for a pleasant afternoon.

There's camping, water, showers and tables, even some RV hook-ups I think.
you can't reserve sites, it's first come first served. you always have to keep an eye out for motorcycles and ATV's. But the park isn't that big and most of the trails are the same, there is a good riverbed for rock crawling though.

Frank Raines is like Hollister, with only about 1/10 as much to do. Great place if you have a dirt bike. There are a few mud holes and a creek to crawl up, but you can do everything there in about 2 hours.
