carrier bearing retainer, important?

Just went to change the fluid in my rear diff. Found the left carrier bearing retainer twisted and smashed stuck to the magnet. The bolt is nowhere to be found. The last fluid change was September so who knows how long its been out. The question is: is it an emergency that I replace the bolt and retainer without driving anymore, or can I take care of it next week?

you are talking about the big bearing cap that goes across the mounting boss in the housing to hold it all together right?? i wouldnt drive it.. but it seems that you have without problem...
