Aussie locker install need tips on removing stubborn unit hubs

Spooky

NAXJA Forum User
I have the calipers removed and the 3 12point 1/2" bolts removed from the unit hubs but I can't get the hubs to budge. Anyone have any tips on how to remove these? I'm trying to remove the hubs and axles as one assembly.

TIA

First spray a little PB Blaster where the hub seats on the knuckle.

Reinstall the 12 point bolts about half way.

Smack the bolts with a hammer. This will drive the hub off.

As you work the hub loose, use more PB Blaster.

Uh........ use a set of sacrificial bolts instead. Chances are that you'll mushroom the heads badly.

It's also a bad idea to use a slide hammer on the wheel studs, unless you're planning on replacing the hub. That abuses the side of the race horribly.
